About the Grazalema Guide

Welcome to the Grazalema Guide. I’m Clive Muir, and I’ve been living in this part of Andalucía for many years. I created this website to share my knowledge of Grazalema, the Sierra de Grazalema and the surrounding white villages, and to help visitors discover the area with useful information from someone who actually knows it.

I’ve spent many years exploring the mountains, villages and countryside around Grazalema, both through my work in nature tourism and simply because this is an area I love. The guide covers the things I think visitors really need to know — from where to stay and eat to walking, wildlife, local history, getting around and places worth discovering.

About Me, Clive, the author of the Grazalema Guide

I’m Clive Muir, the person behind the Grazalema Guide. I’ve lived in this part of Andalucía for over 20 years and have spent much of that time exploring the mountains, villages and countryside of southern Spain.

My background is in nature tourism, wildlife and online publishing, and I’ve been writing about the natural world and places to visit in Spain for many years. Living here means the Grazalema Guide isn’t based simply on information collected from other websites — much of what I write comes from personal experience of the area and the places I regularly visit.

A large part of my working life has been spent building and maintaining websites, originally as a webmaster and increasingly as an independent online publisher. The websites I run cover travel, nature and wildlife, with a particular focus on Andalucía and the places I know best.

I’m also a writer and photographer, and much of the content across my websites comes from my own experience of exploring the countryside, visiting the villages and photographing the wildlife and landscapes of the region. Photography has always been an important part of how I document the places I write about.

The combination of local knowledge, photography, writing and web publishing is what allows me to create the Grazalema Guide as more than simply a collection of tourist information. I can research a subject, experience it for myself, photograph it and then turn that knowledge into something useful for people planning their own visit.

My other projects

Grazalema Guide is one of several websites I’ve developed around Andalucía, travel and nature. Each has its own focus, but they all come from the same interest in helping people discover the places and natural areas of southern Spain.

• Ronda Today — My guide to Ronda, covering everything you need to know before visiting the city, from the famous sights and historic centre to practical information, food, accommodation and things to do.

Clive’s VoiceMap audio guides

I’ve also created a series of self-guided audio tours with VoiceMap, including tours of Ronda, Cádiz, Jerez de la Frontera and Grazalema. These tours combine GPS-triggered commentary with a walking route, allowing you to explore each destination at your own pace.

The idea is simple: instead of joining a group at a fixed time, you download the tour to the VoiceMap app and let the commentary guide you as you walk. I’ve created the tours myself, drawing on my knowledge of the places, their history and the stories that I think make them interesting.

Clive’s audio guided tour of Ronda

My Ronda self-guided audio tour takes you through the city’s most important sights, from the Alameda del Tajo and the famous Puente Nuevo to the old town. Along the route, I tell the stories behind the places you’re seeing and introduce some of the history and characters that have helped make Ronda such a fascinating city.

Clive’s audio guided tour for the city of Cádiz

My Cádiz self-guided audio tour takes you through the historic heart of one of Andalucía’s oldest cities. The route explores the narrow streets, plazas and important sights of Cádiz while I explain some of the history, characters and stories that have shaped the city.

Like my other VoiceMap tours, it is designed to be explored at your own pace. The GPS-guided commentary starts as you reach each location, so you can concentrate on looking around and enjoying the city rather than following a guidebook. Get the audio guide for Cádiz here.

Clives audio guided tour of Jerez de la Frontera

My Jerez de la Frontera self-guided audio tour explores the historic centre of the city, taking you through its streets and important sights while introducing the history, culture and traditions that make Jerez distinctive.

Jerez is particularly famous for sherry, flamenco and horses, and the tour brings some of that character to life as you walk through the city. Discover Grazalema with Clive?

Of course, I’ve also created a self-guided audio tour of Grazalema, the village at the heart of this website. Glorious Grazalema: From Moorish Settlement to Andalusian Treasure takes you on a walking route through the village, exploring its history, architecture, traditions and some of the stories that have shaped Grazalema over the centuries.

The tour uses GPS-triggered commentary through the VoiceMap app, so you can explore independently and at your own pace. Why I created the Grazalema Guide

The Sierra de Grazalema is somewhere I’ve been fortunate enough to know for many years, and I wanted this website to be a useful, independent resource for people who are discovering it for the first time.
