The white villages of the Sierra de Grazalema are among the most distinctive places to visit in inland Andalusia. Scattered across the mountains and valleys of Cádiz and Málaga, these towns and villages are known for their whitewashed houses, narrow streets, traditional architecture and spectacular countryside.
The area is often associated with the Pueblos Blancos, or White Villages, a collection of settlements linked by their history, landscape and rural traditions. Many stand on hillsides or ridges, with views across olive groves, limestone mountains, reservoirs and wooded valleys. Their whitewashed façades are a defining feature of the region, reflecting a long-standing local building tradition.

I’ve been living in this lovely area of Western Andalucia for the last 20 years or so and dedicate most of my time to the running of English language tourist information websites for the towns of Cádiz, Ronda, Grazalema, the famous or infamous Caminito del Rey, and also Wildside Holidays, which promotes sustainable and eco-friendly businesses running wildlife and walking holidays in Spain. My articles contain affiliate links that will help you reserve a hotel, bus, train or activity in the area. You don’t pay more, but by using them you do support this website. Thankyou!
